Polymer lubricants of the Gardomer type are complex formulations based on long-chain organic molecules. They are free from organic solvents and can be easily diluted with water. They are applied by immersion and drying in place. An ideally adjusted system of ecologically compatible dispersant and preservative ensures high bath stability and uniform lubricant application. Foam depressors guarantee a user-friendly handling. Specific surfactants support quick application and the formation of dry, ultra-thin and adhesive high-efficiency lubricant films.
Gardomer lubricants enable perfect drawing and extrusion with low friction, prolonged tool life, minimum drawing residues and maximum forming accuracy, especially on phosphated wires or slugs. Netshaped work pieces finished with Gardomer do not require any further treatment.
After substrate treatment in a neutralizing rinsing bath, the Gardomer lubricant is applied as an aqueous dilution by immersion and subsequent drying. Depending on the respective product and the plant operating conditions, the required bath temperature ranges between a mere 20 and 60°C, thus reducing energy costs. The pH of around 9 lies in a favorable range.
Continuous agitation and an uncomplex bath care, ensures a long service life of the lubricant system, substantially longer than that of reactive soaps.
Unlike in the case of soaps, there is only little contamination of the extrusion oils during the downstream processing of cold heading wires and slugs when using Gardomer. This extends the service life of the lubricants used.
Gardomer products represent a new generation of lubricant systems for metal forming. Maximum forming efficiency is accomplished at minimal lubricant film thickness, distinctly extended tool lives at minimum contamination along with long bath lives and lowest-impact on downstream treatment liquids come up to the exacting economic and ecologic demands on state of the art production methods.
