Alkaline cleaning agent instead of hydrofluoric acid

When die-cast aluminium parts need to be powder coated, they’re usually subjected to a pickling process beforehand in a hydrofluoric acid solution. However, this acid – which is identified with a skull and crossbones – can deeply penetrate into human skin and is highly caustic. Its use is thus questionable with regard to work safety and, on the other hand, it stands in the way of eco-certification in accordance with ISO 14001. Dansoclean A 6125 alkaline cleaning agent manufactured by Dansotec GmbH can be used as an alternative to hydrofluoric acid. Tests conducted in the company’s own laboratory, as well as at customer facilities, have revealed that comparable pickling results are obtained for die-cast aluminium parts with the aqueous medium. Dansoclean A 6125, which is foam-free at room temperature or warmer, has been developed for the removal of phosphate films, micro-scale and residues which cause thick layers such as deep drawing deposits and corrosion protection greases. The alkaline cleaning agent is also suitable for cleaning away residues and metallic debris after chip-forming and chipless machining.
