Metallform Wächter GmbH demonstrates that perfectly-tailored cleaning baskets enable running costs to be lowered as well as increasing the cleaning quality. When designing the workpiece holders, the company not only factors in requirements specific to parts and cleanliness, but also takes into account the entire handling and packaging process. This allows internal parts transport to be optimised and manual changeover procedures between individual production stages and/or the final cleaning and packaging to be minimised. The potential for savings this offers is illustrated in the following example: a customer that supplies the automotive industry has to package around 18,000 components daily in blister packs after final cleaning. Roughly five seconds are required to package each part manually – a total of 24 hours daily. Therefore, at least three employees would be required for this. Because Metallform’s workpiece holders are tailor-made for the blister packs, 72 parts can be packaged at a time using a turning process – and all this takes a maximum of 30 seconds. The time required to package the 18,000 parts was thus reduced to little more than two hours a day.
