Last year the reinforcement mesh producer Megasider from Spain searched for a very special machine for its production facility. To fulfil the needs of their customers, Megasider wanted to produce designed mesh in small batches, and also offer uncommon, special designs.
Finally, Megasider found in Schlatter a partner who was able to deal with these requests efficiently. The modular design of the machines from Switzerland enables high flexibility.
The welding line model Superflex, with integrated welding portal built for Megasider makes the production of small batch sizes of 20 to 500 pieces possible. With very short changeover times of less than five minutes, the Spanish supplier can deal with customer’s requests quickly and with flexiblity.
The machine adjustment is done fully automatically – at the push of a button after entering mesh data into the PC. Only the loading of the wire material, and the removal of the finished product is done manually. Furthermore, Schlatter systems are very easy to maintain to minimise down time.
The possibility to process line wires of 4 to 16 and 20 to 25mm as well as mesh lengths of 3000 to 14,000mm enables Megasider to fulfil almost every customer’s request. Moreover, this Superflex can also process WR-material and enables even a two-strip mesh production. The line is equipped with “floating” welding presses. This enables simultaneous welding of wires with different diameters, with the mesh remaining free from distortion.
Megasider is pleased with the new line: “Our goal was to supplement the designed mesh by a wider range of products for WR-material. By means of the new Superflex line we were able to enlarge the range of the offered mesh geometries considerably, and offer a better service to our customers, who are mainly bending companies.”

H. A. Schlatter AG has been involved in electric resistance welding for more than 80 years. Electric resistance welding is a process, which connects metal parts in a material-locked joint by using electric power to heat them to welding temperature while subjecting them simultaneously to a mechanical force. No filler material is used.
Electric resistance welding is a versatile and highly dynamic joining method able to perform a large number of welds quickly, precisely, cleanly, economically and with reproducible quality.
For a resistance welding machine to work accurately, the parts need to be fed exactly to the welding station and positioned precisely, the welding current has to be controlled to optimum effect, and the process parameters – current flow, current intensity, welding time and welding pressure – all need to be controlled exactly. This requires optimum coordination of the system's mechanics, electronics and information technology – in a word: mechatronics – by the machine-builder. Systems engineering, i.e. the development of complete solutions in which numerous individual machines work together and in synchronisation, is based on this expertise.
The core competence of H. A. Schlatter AG lies in the synergy-creating mastery of welding technology, mechatronics and systems engineering.
