Being specialist in a specific industrial sector involves also the knowledge of the real problems of the customers and the production of machineries which can meet the most difficult requirements. O.M.D. Officina Meccanica Domaso S.p.A. having its seat and location in Domaso on the Como Lake, is specialized in manufacturing spring making machines.

Technological know-how gained from a long experience in this sector for more than sixty years of production, enable O.M.D. to propose a wide range of spring end grinding machines which can be classified in three categories: automatic spring end grinding machines, spring end grinding machines with water cooling, spring deburring and chamfering machines.
The automatic spring end grinding machines with two opposed, vertical axis spindles have been realized for simultaneous grinding of both compression spring ends. The working methods are continuous grinding (pass grinding) or cycle grinding (with downfeed of upper spindle group). The machines may have one or two loading plates and they are equipped with a special cooling system, an automatic grinding wheel wear compensation, an automatic grinding wheel dressing system, a function for changing the grinding wheel rotation speed, an electronic adjustment of the spindle downfeed speed keeping the grinding pressure constant, a control and adjustment system for loading plate rotation speed, a spring length control system. The program structure and the graphic interface enable an easy machine use for the machine operators; moreover, they permit to face out the increasing requirements related to production management and cost control.
The automatic spring end grinding machines with water cooling have been realized for grinding spring ends having a medium – large wire diameter. They can be distinguished in: pendular and double horizontal spindle machines.
The pendular machines have only one horizontal spindle, suitable for grinding on the front plane of the grinding wheel with automatic feed and automatic grinding wheel wear compensation.
The double horizontal spindle machines with loading plate are suitable for simultaneous grinding of the spring ends; they include an automatic positioning system, an automatic grinding wheel wear compensation, an automatic grinding wheel dressing system and an electronic adjustment of the loading plate rotation speed. These machines are designed on the basis of technologically reliable solutions, accurate processing and selected materials.
The spring deburring and chamfering machines are used to chamfer the internal or external spring terminals in order to remove the burr which may result during the spring end grinding process. Generally, these machines include following functions: a spring transfer system, one or more grinding stations with high-speed spindles and adjustment of the inclination and depth of chamfer.
Grinding is a working process which has great influence on the production cost of the springs, therefore it’s absolutely necessary to pay attention when choosing both the machine and the grinding wheels (structure, hardness and grain size).
Customers may optimise the working cycles and obtain a high productivity if they choose high quality grinding wheels and take full advantage from O.M.D grinding machines using functions such as the special cooling system, self-adjustment of grinding pressure, the independent spindle rotation speed variation and the automatic grinding wheel dressing system.
