STRANDING

Despite the worldwide economic crisis and against tough international competition, Sket has won a contract with Kiswire for delivery in Q4 2010 of equipment for the Neptune 2 project comprising the world's largest Planetary Closer and longest Tubular Strander. These two extraordinary machines being outstanding in their design shall be used, amongst others, for producing deep-sea offshore ropes. The Neptune 2 project, an $80 million investment being set up on a 20 acre site situated near the Johor-based Neptune 1 plant, will be completed in 2011.
The Model MKVS 1+8x2700 Planetary Closer is suitable for making 160mm dia. rope. The picture beside shows a stranding cage of the similar MKVS 8x2000 series.
The machine will be provided with a pay-off and take-up capable of accommodating reels with a maximum capacity of 600 tonnes. Both the pay-off and take-up reels feature a flange diameter of 5600mm and a traversing width of 10,000mm. The largest take-up ever made by Sket having a 400 tonnes winding capacity operates at Bridon International (see picture). Bridon International On the High-Speed Tubular Strander of the SRW 1+48x800 (32") type, strands with a diameter of up to 55mm will be produced at a maximum line speed of 100m/min. This line will also be capable of producing compacted strands.
Sket’s hitherto largest high-speed tubular strander of the SRW 1+48x630 type has been working successfully at the Kiswire Neptune 1 plant in Malaysia for more than 10 years.
