Hilden/D (Kocks) – Huaigang Special Steel Co. Ltd. (HSS), a company of the Chinese Jiangsu Shagang Group, placed an order with the German company Friedrich Kocks GmbH & Co KG in Hilden for the modernization of their existing rod and bar mill. The target of this modernization, which will be reached to a high degree by implementing a Kocks 3-roll Reducing & Sizing Block (RSB), is to raise the product quality in order to strengthen the market position. Huaigang is based in Huai’an, a megacity with roughly five million residents in the Jiangsu province, hometown of the former Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai. The company’s predecessor, the Qingjiang Iron & Steel Factory was established in 1970. HSS today counts 6000 employees and with an annual steel production of 2.8 million tons it ranks among the top 50 Chinese metallurgical companies. Huaigang is one of the major suppliers of spring steel for the automotive industry and the high-speed train. The new Reducing & Sizing Block is dimensioned to operate with four 3-roll stands and a nominal roll diameter of 215mm. It will be implemented as finishing block in the 600,000t/a rolling mill behind an existing ten year old Danieli Morgà¥rdshammar roughing and intermediate mill consisting of 18 2-high HV stands. The 3-roll block will roll straight bars from 13.0mm à˜ to 22.0mm à˜ onto the cooling bed. The RSB allows rolling out of only one pass series from the roughing and intermediate mill and thus significantly reduces the number of required feeders. Any desired finished dimension of the complete dimensional range can be produced in any desired sequence with a minimum number of roll sets and just a few stand changes. The optimum adjustment values for motor speed, rolls and guides as well as gear steps are calculated by the bar mill configuration system Bamicon in relation to the final product. The Kocks scope of supply includes the 3-roll Reducing & Sizing Block with automatic quick stand changing system, remotely controlled adjustment of passes and guides as well as the roll shop equipment with quick roll change and Capas – the computer aided system for accurate adjustment of rolls and roller guides of 3-roll stands. It goes without saying that within the frame of general responsibility for the modernization, Kocks will also be in charge of erection and commissioning supervision. All these aspects will ensure trouble-free, economic production of top quality bars. Commissioning of the new 3-roll Reducing & Sizing Block is scheduled for the first half of 2012.
