wire Southeast Asia 2011 show is shaping up to be another landmark event for the region’s wire, cable, pipe and tube industries come September this year. Exhibitors from more than 20 countries have already confirmed their presence at the event and the organisers are expected final numbers to tally at more than 300 exhibitors from 30 countries. National pavilions have also been confirmed from Austria, China, Germany, Italy, the USA, United Kingdom, and Taiwan, lending the event a truly global flavor.
“This exhibition continues to play a great part with its outstanding quality and quantity of visitors. Moreover, Thailand is one of the most important industrial countries in Asia with a wide range of companies actively dealing in the wire and cable industries,” adds Italian Wire Machinery Manufacturers Association (ACIMAF) President, Mr. Ferrucchio Bellina.
Another key supporter is the International Wire & Machinery Association (IWMA). IWMA Chairman Mr. Colin Dawson says, “The IWMA is a long term industry partner to, and sponsor of, the wire Southeast Asia exhibition since its very inception. This support started with wire Singapore before it was re-located to Bangkok in 2007 and re-named wire Southeast Asia. The new location and title received the full support of the IWMA and its members for very good reasons.”
Mr. Dawson explains, “There is no doubt that, despite encountering difficulties from time to time, whether these are unexpected natural events, political situations or health-related concerns, a number of the economies of the Southeast Asia region are firmly on course to develop strongly through the decade, especially Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. These economies are predicted to grow from between 5 to 7% this year, driven to a large extent by major infrastructure projects and strong domestic demand.” Based on this, Mr. Dawson is confident that wire Southeast Asia 2011 is very timely indeed and will provide the wire and cable industry with an excellent forum to benefit from the opportunities arising from these and other economies in the region.
Heinz Rockenhäuser, President of the International Wire and Cable Exhibitors Association, notes that in contrast to the economic situation in October 2009, the wire and cable industry has been experiencing an upturn since the autumn of last year. “Southeast Asia benefits especially also from its neighbours, growth locomotive China and highly industrialized Japan,” he says, adding, “All participants in the Bangkok exhibition, i.e. the wire and cable industry together with their suppliers showcasing in the trade fair, will delve into the latest developments, beyond their currently growing own demands. The disaster in Japan will result in the accelerated development of renewable energies worldwide with new business prospects for the wire and cable industry following from that.”
Backing up the global nature of this regional event, wire Southeast Asia also enjoys strong support from eminent industry organizations, one of them being the International Tube Association (ITA). Says ITA President Dr. Gunther Voswinckel, “The ITA is delighted to be the main international sponsor of Tube Southeast Asia, having been a strong supporter of its predecessor Tube Singapore since the very first edition.”
He adds, “Bangkok is a very important hub for the region’s most important markets and this exhibition provides an excellent platform for suppliers in the tube and pipe industry to establish a presence in Southeast Asia. Because of the location of Bangkok at the heart of this part of the world and its accessibility, visitors to the exhibition are attracted from other regions like India, the Middle East and Africa, as well as Australasia.” While Dr. Voswinckel feels that the previous Tube Southeast Asia event in 2009 undoubtedly suffered from the tail end of the global recession, with very positive economic forecasts now coming from Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand itself, with growth rates in the range of 5-7% fuelled by major infrastructure projects, the 2011 exhibition should prove to be scheduled at a very opportune time for the industry”.

Growing demand for industry, infrastructure

As noted by key supporting organizations, wire Southeast Asia host country Thailand and neighbour Vietnam are major users of wire and tube solutions. Thailand has a well developed industrial infrastructure with large automotive, electrical/electronic, petroleum and petrochemical industries boosting demand. As income levels rise in the country, high levels of infrastructure spending will also be essential.
The need to develop infrastructure in Vietnam, meanwhile, is becoming increasingly pressing as the country emerges as a production base integrated with the global economy. Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment estimates that between now and 2020, Vietnam will require some US$150-160 billion for infrastructure development.

Indonesia and Malaysia spur demand for wire & tube solutions

With their strong economic fundamentals and wide-ranging investment plans, Thailand’s fellow ASEAN nations Indonesia and Malaysia further reinforce the significance of wire Southeast Asia 2011.
– Indonesia has enjoyed an extended period of political stability and the outlook remains positive for continued investment in infrastructure, petroleum and petrochemicals, and mining. GDP growth is also forecast to remain strong in coming years, exceeding 6 percent per annum.
– The Indonesian automobile industry has recovered strongly and double-digit growth is forecast for the next four years, with industry estimates pointing to a doubling of production between 2010 and 2015. The country is transforming into a global manufacturing base for MPVs.
– Indonesia will require an estimated US$150 billion of infrastructure investment over the next five years.
– Malaysia and other ASEAN economies are benefiting from a renewed emphasis on FDI in the Southeast Asian region, partly to counter higher labour costs and reduced incentives in China.
– To consolidate its position as an investment destination, Malaysia is promoting several logistics infrastructure projects that will accelerate demand for wire and tube solutions.
With these high levels of investment in ASEAN economies and strong industry support, wire Southeast Asia once again proves that it is the must attend show in the region for all industry practitioners who are serious about participating in the market.
