The hot coating technique was once developed by the academy of science in the former German Democratic Republic and was originally designed for a substitute of the phosphating.

The background of this process of development were the high costs combined with the process of phosphating and disposal of phosphating.
As a result of the research process a team of engineers and scientists developed the hot coating technique.
It turned out that the hot coating technique alone could not attain the desired degrees of deformation. That was the reason for that this method was only applied on the field of low deformation degrees.
The vom Hofe Kaltstauchdraht GmbH has reinvented this technique. The company succeeded in enhance the technique and combined it with the phosphated surface. During this procedure the wire gets immersion-coated in the hot coating bath after the phosphating.
At this the status of the bath is crucial for the successful exertion concerning the temperature, configuration et cetera.
By the high temperature of the deformation in the press the hot coating gets liquid during customers` production process and puts a lubricating film on the pressing tools. The improved lube friction between steel and tool leads in result to a higher deformation of the material. By this technique of the surface coating deformation degrees from up to 90 percent are obtainable.
Furthermore this technique offers a lot of advantages specially compared to other surface coating techniques. The customers of the vom Hofe Kaltstauchdraht GmbH for example report on lower rejection of about 30 percent on the field of pressing tools.
