The supervision system VQS is used to continuously survey the print quality in high speed cable production lines fitted with cable printers, allowing speeds up to 1500m/min. It offers the comfort of a visualization of the printed picture in great enlargement on a computer screen. The system includes the video camera unit with integrated stroboscope which is automatically synchronized with the cable printing process via the stroboscope output of the cable printer. The camera head can be rotated around the cable axis by a motorized system which allows the user to find the correct orientation easily (as the cable usually rotates when leaving the printer). Thy system is completed by a robust rack with a control box containing the electric supply and the motorization control, as well as the PC with flat LCD monitor on a swivelling arm.
The camera shoots and refreshes 12 subsequent pictures (which cover the maximum possible print length) in time intervals of a few seconds. These pictures can be visualized on the screen in various manners, either in one line for an easy overview or in matrix arrays allowing better enlargement. A finger tip on a picture on the touch-screen zooms in the selected picture to full screen size for detailed view. A scroll function allows the interesting part of the print to be centred at a defined position.
An automatic match analysis allows a continuous comparison of a selected picture with another picture once entered as reference, and will release an alarm if a tolerance threshold is exceeded. This feature improves the reliability of automatic production lines by a lot.
The system is fully protected against environmental influence (dirt, ink splashes), and due to its narrow design it will fit easily in any production line somewhere after the printing machine. After opening the protecting shield, all inner parts are easily accessible for attendance.
