Interwire, the largest wire and cable trade show in the Americas, is set to return to Cleveland, Ohio’s I-X Center this spring. The event comprises an educational component, networking, more than 100,000 sq ft of exhibits, and informational exchanges throughout the week. Set concurrently with the Wire Association International’s 79th Annual Convention, conference dates are April 25 to 30; exhibits run April 27 to 30, 2009.

Toyota executive, Pat D’Eramo, Vice President Manufacturing, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK), will kick off the week’s events with his keynote presentation entitled: “The Future of Automobile Manufacturing,” at WAI’s Annual Awards Breakfast on Monday, April 27th.
Exports are also in focus at Interwire as the event – which typically attracts representatives from more than 50 countries – has the first-time backing of the US Department of Commerce’s International Buyer Program, to facilitate buyer and seller introductions onsite.
Another highlight is an executive panel presentation, entitled “Looking Forward: The Keys to Success,” moderated by Philip Radbourne, Director, Integer Research Ltd. Panelists include: Gregory J. Lampert, Executive Vice President, President and CEO, General Cable North America; Hugo Alberto Gómez Sierra, Director del Sector Cables de grupo Condumex; Richard Carr, Executive Vice President, Coleman Cable Inc.; and Jack Carlson, President, Electrical Division, Southwire.
A complete technical program, including 32 presentations, forms the core of this year’s educational offerings. Two theme sessions are devoted to dies and coolants, respectively, and other ferrous, nonferrous and electrical topics are scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday. “Innovation in Wire” is a new full-day workshop during which instructor Dr. Michael Zelin will disclose how, among other topics in macro- and micro-innovation, original manufacturing solutions can be stimulated by observing nature.
Six on-floor production solution sessions are slated offering a range of practical demonstrations on wire breaks, die evaluation, lubrication, conventional butt welding, mechanical descaling, and two-plane roll straightener set-up and adjustment.
The International Fastener Exposition, organised by The International Fastener Machinery & Suppliers Association (IFMSA), will co-locate with Interwire again giving visitors full access to a comprehensive and contiguous exhibition. Interwire 2009 is hosted by The Wire Association International (WAI), Inc. It is supported by sponsoring organisations including: the American Wire Producers Association (AWPA) and The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) and The Steel Manufacturers Association of India (SWMAI). WAI has educational alliances with the Australasian Wire Industry Association (AWIA) and the Asociación Nacional de Transformadores de Acero, A.C., (ANTAAC), which represents ferrous wire manufacturing operations in Mexico.
