Pratteln/CH (Buss) – For Buss AG this year’s wire trade fair was the most successful ever. The company booked orders for no less than six cable compound kneading lines. Also at Chinaplas 2008, international plastics and rubber industries fair, Buss high-performance kneaders for compounding heat and shear sensitive plastics attracted great interest among the numerous specialists present. At wire three quantec kneaders for PVC cable compounds were ordered, plus three of the recently launched MX kneaders for polyolefin based cable compounds. These MX kneader orders clearly show how highly our customers rate the latest generation of Buss kneaders with innovative four-flight technology.
The gratifying results achieved at wire are no surprise to Buss CEO Beat Sturzenegger: “Cable compound kneader lines are our core business. This outstanding success, with orders booked for six kneading lines, shows just how highly our customers appreciate the advantages of Buss four-flight kneader technology. It enables them to double or triple throughput for the same machine size with high-performance Buss kneaders for first-class cable compound quality. By mid-year 2008 we shall already have sold one hundred of our well-proven quantec kneaders, and sales of our new MX kneader have been excellent right from the start. Buss four-flight kneader technology has clearly revolutionized all kinds of high-grade cable compound production.”
Beat Sturzenegger also reported on the Buss order intake status and market growth in India: “Orders received as per end of the first quarter already ensured a good workload for 2008. And this situation will be further enhanced by the orders booked at wire – plus the additional orders likely from several other interested clients. Particularly gratifying is that three of the compounding lines ordered at wire are for customers in India. One reason is certainly that Buss significantly expanded its sales and service organization last year in the fastgrowing Indian market.”
The Buss kneader at the heart of these lines has undergone a quantum leap in throughput and compounding quality, thanks to the patented four-flight screw technology developed by Buss. This means that high grade cable compounds can now be produced at significantly lower cost. Accordingly, numerous specialists from all over the world informed themselves at wire about the two different Buss kneader families:
- The extremely compact quantec kneader is well proven for all kinds of PVC cable compounds, but also for compounding peroxide cross-linkable polyethylene (XLPE). Decisive for this latter application is that after injecting the liquid peroxide into the melt, through a special dosing device, the critical temperature of 12°C is not exceeded.
- The high performance MX kneader family launched a few months ago is ideal for polyolefin based cable compounds, in particular halogen-free flame retardant (HFFR) types. The first stage comprises a four-flight Buss kneader with two material feeds. The special geometry of the screw and kneading zone ensures particularly gentle processing of the heat-sensitive melt. In the second stage, a flanged-on discharge extruder builds up the pressure required for optional melt filtration and for air-water pelletizing.
