Hagen/Germany (Bechem) – 1834 Carl Bechem founded the first German oil plant in Hagen, North Rhine-Westphalia. Thus the Carl Bechem GmbH can now look back on 175 years of experience in the production of industrial high performance lubricants. With more than 400 employees, 100 of them abroad, and daughter companies in France, India and Switzerland as well as joint ventures in the USA, South Africa, Sweden and China Bechem today is one of the global players in the field of speciality lubricants. Besides the head quarter in Hagen Bechem has two more production sites in Germany. International production plants are located in China, the USA and, recently, also in India. The company is managed by the family in its sixth generation. Basis for the past development and the successful existence in the market despite growing competition is a clear innovation management. With product and process innovations Carl Bechem always proved that the company belongs to the top European manufacturers of high performance lubricants. Recently the company attracted attention with the development of various new special lubricants in the automotive area and new coolant products in metalworking. In the field of wire drawing new methods and products for aluminium wire drawing have to be mentioned: with low-viscous drawing oils of the Berudraw AL product family, which contain special additives and antioxidants, new standards were set in connection with a filter system. The drawing lubricants allow full-stream filtering which retains particles of a size from 5µ. These lubricants excel by low maintenance and extended lifetime. The success story of aluminium wire drawing is continued by the application of emulsions of the Unopol AL product family in medium and fine drawing, which represents a completely new but most beneficial way. The Unopol emulsions with their lower viscosity allow a considerably improved filterability and thus almost residue-free drawing processes as well as higher drawing speeds thanks to their better cooling properties.
