209 exhibitors from 12 countries was present at the 5th parts2clean at the new Stuttgart Exhibition Centre adjacent to the airport from the 9th through the 11th of October, 2007. This corresponds to roughly 7% growth.

Pavilion 9 (West entrance) was thus entirely full, right up to the very last booth location. A range of products and services covering the entire parts cleaning process sequence will await the visitors, which is unparalleled by any other trade fair in Europe, and the market leaders, as well as all of the industry’s renowned companies from all of the relevant sectors, will be represented at the leading international trade fair. In addition to this, the integrated expert forum and the special show entitled “Industrial Parts Cleaning” offer valuable know-how regarding optimisation of the cleaning process.
Roughly 20% growth in net exhibition floor space had been registered at this year’s parts2clean for a total of approximately 55,000 square feet. Multi-industry offerings cover the entire parts cleaning sequence, which plays a decisive role within the manufacturing process.

Innovative developments in all sectors

The fact that parts2clean is considered the European trade fair for industrial parts cleaning is made plainly apparent by the numerous product innovations which will be presented by the exhibitors. These include, for example, a cleaning system equipped with several process modules which is operated with non-halogenated hydrocarbons. Processing time for this new system which has been designed for inline cleaning of individual parts with complex shapes – for example pump housings, valve manifolds, motor parts and gearbox components – can be adapted to the manufacturing cycle. Parts are fed to the processing chamber in a time-delayed fashion with a specially developed handling system. Workpieces are sent through the cleaning process in workpiece carriers from production, thus eliminating the need for transfer, and the system can be laid out in accordance with actual requirements and includes process steps for injection flood washing, steam degreasing and vacuum drying. New developments in the field of surface treatment with low-pressure plasma will also be presented. With this method, achievable cleanliness is independent of the structure and geometry of the workpiece surface. An additional effect offered by this process is optimised preparation for subsequent surface finishing processes, for example improved adhesion of glues and coatings. Examples of plasma cleaning applications include the removal of release agents which usually consist of residual silicon on the parts (making them PWIS-free: free of paint-wetting impairment substances), cleaning prior to coil coating, electronics and microsystems technology, optics and analytical chemistry, as well as metalworking and plastics processing. In order to meet ever stricter requirements for part cleanliness which is compounded by increasing miniaturisation of the workpieces to be cleaned, systems for cleaning with supercritical carbon dioxide will also be presented. “Supercritical” because the carbon dioxide is used in an aggregation state in which its physical characteristics lie between the liquid and the gaseous state. While in this state, CO2 demonstrates only minimal viscosity and surface tension. In this way, non-polar contamination such as oils and greases can be removed from the finest cracks and pores. In order to remove polar contamination as well (chips, salt), a system will be offered by means of which cleaning with supercritical and liquid carbon dioxide is combined. The range of applications for snow jet cleaning is being expanded with the help of new tools. These include a nozzle array for efficient inline cleaning of 3D structures, for example bumpers, before painting. A miniaturised cleaning nozzle makes it possible to take advantage of snow jet cleaning in extremely tight spaces. A CO2 snow-jet lance with swivelling nozzle represents a third new tool. It allows for large surface-area removal of particle shaped contamination from pipes, containers and components. And there’s news regarding cleaning agents as well. Cleaners will be presented for aqueous processes which demonstrate good contamination dislodging properties even at low temperatures. Treatment times can be reduced as a result, and, on the other hand, the low process temperature saves energy and water. In the field of solvent cleaning, polar solvents are making it possible to simplify and shorten cleaning processes. These cleaners are capable of removing non-polar contamination such as greases and oils, as well as polar contamination like aqueous coolants and lubricants, salt, chips and abrasion with a single washing cycle. parts2clean exhibitors will also offer new, as well as time-tested processes and methods for inspecting the surface cleanliness of components and functional surfaces. The spectrum extends from test inks and non-destructive analysis methods which can be integrated into the manufacturing process, right on up to microscopic systems for cleanliness inspection in accordance with a variety of standards, for example VDA 19 and ISO 16232.

Supplementary frogram with expert forum and special show

The great demand for information in the field of industrial parts cleaning was also being met by parts2clean with a special show entitled “The Industrial Parts Cleaning Process Sequence”, and an integrated expert forum. Competent speakers from R&D, industry and various associations inform visitors regarding a variety of topics covering all aspects of parts cleaning as part of the manufacturing process in practical, application-specific presentations.
