Düsseldorf/Germany (SMS Demag) – SMS Demag AG, a company of the SMS group, Germany, has successfully put into operation a four-strand continuous bloom caster for Ural Steel (Metalloinvest Group), Russia. The plant is rated for anannual production of one million t.
Two alternatives can be selected for the section sizes: rectangular sections in the dimensions 330 x 470mm or rounds with a diameter of 430 to 600mm, in both cases representing the world’s thickest blooms. The continuous caster is equipped with hydraulic resonanceoscillation and with only one type of stirring coil. This can be used for all casting sizes.
For the above-mentioned core components, SMS Demag suppliedthe complete X-Pact electrical and automation package, including Level 2. Ural Steel concentrates 70 percent on the Russian market and produces sophisticated tube grades for the oil and gas industry, for bridgebuilding and for heavy engineering.
