Happy birthday, OMD! In 1948, Swiss Emil Kunz and his son Hans founded la Officina Meccanica Domaso AG on the lakefront of the Lago di Como in Northern Italy. Beginning of October 2008 OMD, today one of the worldwide leading manufacturers of machines for wire processing, celebrated a great birthday party. WIRE took the opportunity for an interwiew with OMD’s president Gabriella Kunz, daughter of Hans Kunz.
The article describes the coating processes used for the further processing of optical fibres. Cable manufacturers will naturally be familiar with most of this material. However, the author would like to give a very brief description of the various coating processes from the viewpoint of the machinery manufacturer, but will not therefore go into detail on the various different types of optical fibres or their specifications.
