Düsseldorf/Germany (SMS Group) – Arcelormittal Brasil S.A., Belo Horizonte, Brazil, has placed an order with Concast AG, Switzerland, a company of the SMS group, Germany, for the supply of a secondary-metallurgy center and of a continuous caster for the production of SBQ billets (Special Bar Quality) for the manufacture of wire for tires (tire cord). Commissioning is scheduled for June 2010.
The facilities, a ladle furnace and a continuous caster, will be incorporated into the existing integrated iron and steel works at Monlevade, Brazil. The present capacity of 1.2 million t will inrease to 2.4 million t of liquid steel per annum. A wire-rod rolling mill connected to the continuous caster has been ordered from SMS Meer, also a company of the SMS group. The ladle furnace, with a capacity of 130t and a 24MVA transformer, allows a heating rate of around 4.5°C/min.
With this order, Arcelormnittal Brasil S.A. has already ordered the fourth successive ladle furnace from Concast.
