Germany-based Fuhr GmbH & Co KG, one of the very few suppliers of world-class wire rolling machines, recently managed to secure various orders from major players in the Far Eastern energy sector. Beside some large-volume projects with domestic and European clients, Fuhr has also been receiving orders from a number of blue-chip companies in China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan – while a few of the affiliated contracts deal with special profile wire for road & rail transport applications, as well as the logistics industry, the majority of current projects have been evolving around the energy sector. In times where oil becomes a scarce resource and known oil fields get close to extinction, oil exploration companies have to go further offshore and thus, also into greater depths than ever before. Hence, there is a globally growing demand for heavily armored flowlines, risers and jumpers that withstand the immense pressures of deep sea oil exploration. Parallel to these efforts of accessing the last untapped oil resources, players in the energy supply business increasingly focus on renewable energy, i.e. upscale photovoltaic systems which require extremely soft annealed and well-tinned PV ribbon, as well as wind generators with electric motors that need to be highly-efficient in order to yield enough power and thus, require windings made of CTC (continuously transposed conductor) copper wire. Furthermore, these electric motors based on CTC technology are being used for the automobile industry, such as Toyota’s range of hybrid cars. Be it flat copper wire for PV bus bar & interconnect ribbon, rectangular copper wire for magnet wire and CTC in particular, or high-carbon steel wire for flexible pipe armoring, interlocking applications – they all have in common to become the main pillars of future energy supply. Karl Fuhr has a range of modular-built, high-precision rolling mills that combine highest production speeds of up to 800m/min with tolerances of ± 1µm. Being equipped with these production lines enables our customers to always stay ahead of their competition.
