German electric industry – Electric exports and imports

January 2020 — In the first eleven months of last year the aggregated electric exports exceeded their pre-year level by 2.7% and came to 199.7bn euro. The German imports of electrical and electronic products stagnated in November (-0.1% to 17.4bn euro). 

Frankfurt a.M./Germany (ZVEI) – However, from January through November 2019 they rose by 2.5% (again year-on-year rate) to 181.1bn euro. While the sector’s deliveries to the industrialized countries stagnated at 12.2bn euro in November, the exports to the emerging markets grew by 2.4% (yoy) to 6.8bn euro. The deliveries to overall Europe increased by 2.6% to 12.4bn euro. In contrast, exports to the euro area (–0.6% to 5.9bn euro), to Asia (-0.8% to 4.0bn euro) and to America (-2.3% to 2.1bn euro) were all on the decline.

From January through November of the last year the electric deliveries to the emerging countries (+4.1% to 71.4bn euro) picked up more strongly than those to the industrialized countries (+1.9% to 128.3bn euro), too. In the
same period of time, the exports to Europe or rather the euro zone amounted to 127.6bn euro (+1.8% yoy) and 64.2bn euro (+2.9%), respectively. The deliveries to America (+7.8% to 24.1bn euro ) developed more dynamically than the exports to Asia (+2.7% to 43.1bn euro).

In absolute terms most exports were marketed in China in November 2019, namely 1.9bn euro. However, the growth rate was very small this time (+0.5% year over year). The deliveries to the USA, which rank second, fell by
3.5% to 1.6bn euro. The exports to the Czech Republic (+26.7% to 1.2bn euro) moved up to place 3. In contrast, the deliveries to Great Britain (-20.1% to 728m euro) fell to rank 9. France came fourth in November. Exports there rose slightly by 0.5% to 1.2bn euro. The deliveries to Poland (+3.1% to 1.0bn euro), Italy (+7.6% to 959m euro), the Netherlands (-9.7% to 865m euro) and Austria (-8.5% to 812m euro) followed behind. Eventually, the top ten customer list is completed by Switzerland which demanded German electric products of 646m euro (+4.0%) in November 2019.
