Arlenico starts wire rod production with “Meerdrive Plus” block
Arlenico produces special grades of wire rod with a four-stand “Meerdrive Plus” block from SMS. The plant had immediately met the specified tolerance of 0.05mm and 50% ovality for 5.5mm diameter wire.

Dusseldorf/Germany (SMS Group) – Italian company Arlenico SpA manufactures wire rod in special grades. The company has commissioned a four-stand “Meerdrive Plus” block supplied by SMS Group in the existing Caleotto wire rod mill in Lecco/Italy. Arlenico can now serve the market with products of tighter tolerances than before. With the technology supplied by SMS, the company will also be able to roll thermo-mechanically in the future. Arlenico had issued the preliminary acceptance certificate in December for SMS. This was followed by performance tests with the production of wire rod in the diameter range from 5.5mm to 27mm in various steel grades at a maximum speed of 115m/min and at low temperatures of 750°C. The production of the wire rod was then tested at a temperature of 750°C. The test was carried out in the course of the year. The specified tolerances of only 0.05mm and 50% ovality for 5.5mm diameter wire were met directly during the first test rolling operations.
